It is with great sadness, and much love, that the family of Candice (Candi) P. Girouard (Craig) announces her passing on May 30, 2025, at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, Massachusetts.
Born on December 6, 1954, to the late Milton and Helen (Parda) Craig, Candi grew up in Easthampton and Northampton. She graduated from Northampton High School and earned her degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She later worked as a social worker with state mental health agencies. Following a stroke in 2023, she resided in a long-term care facility in Amherst, Massachusetts.
Candi had many interests and passions throughout her life. She especially enjoyed searching for treasures at local tag sales, a pastime she shared with her mother. Candi enjoyed a close bond with her parents, whom she adored, and found caring for them a profound source of love and purpose. An avid animal lover, Candi opened her heart and home to many dogs from local shelters and rescues. She was also a creative spirit who enjoyed artistic pursuits, including comic strip illustration, and do-it-yourself projects around her home. She was known for her generosity, taking great pleasure in giving gifts—often with elaborate cards, thoughtful messages, and beautifully wrapped packages.
In August 1991, Candi married Ernest Girouard, who predeceased her in January 2017. Together they shared a love of travel, especially to Cape Cod, cooking, and the companionship of many dogs, most especially their beloved Max.
Candi leaves behind her sister, Karin G. LaPointe of Buffalo Grove, IL to cherish her memory and the many years they shared together; her niece, Fleur Sustache of Holyoke, MA; her nephew, Joel LaPointe and his wife Dana of Northfield, IL; her great-nephew, Lorenzo Girouard Sustache, and great-niece, Sadie LaPointe.
The family invites all who knew and loved Candi to an hour of remembrance at Boucher O’Brien Funeral Home at 7 Pleasant St., Easthampton, MA at 10AM on Thursday, June 25, 2026. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a local animal shelter or animal rescue organization of your choice.
