Rita Sophie (Guerrette) Nowakowski, 99 of Easthampton, MA passed away at Care One in Northampton on December 29, 2023. Born on June 28, 1924 in Lewiston, Maine she was the daughter of Cyrelle and Anna (Michaude) Guerrette.
Rita was educated in Lewiston, ME, she moved to Hartford, they then settled in Easthampton in 1953. She worked for 17 years at Lesnow MFG, where she retired in 1987.
Rita loved to bake, especially making cupcakes for the Senior Center, Christmas Ornaments and sharing her treats. She was in the Mother’s Club, the Bowling League at the Senior Center, she enjoyed going on bus trips, shopping, and riding her scooter to Big E’s. Rita was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Parish.
She will be dearly missed by her daughter Theresa Lapan and her husband Leo “whom she absolutely adored” of Northampton, her grandchildren Justin Karella, Nathan and Rainy Karella , her son in law Paul Karella, her brother in law Edward Sampson along with several nieces and nephews.
Rita was predeceased by her son Thomas in 1994, her daughter Nancy in 2017, her brothers Patrick, Gerard and Maurice Guerrette and her sisters Marie Thearault and Elian Samson. A sincere thank you to the special people at Care One for the wonderful care they provided to Rita.
Calling hours will be at the Boucher – O’Brien Funeral home, 7 Pleasant St. Easthampton, MA on Saturday, January 6, 2023, from 9:00- 10:00am with a prayer service at 10am. Burial to follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
