Constance Anne (Szary) Schwobe died at Baystate Medical Center on January 25, 2023, after a brief illness. She was 88 years old. Connie was born in Northampton, MA, on October 7, 1934. Her father, Walter Szary, was a well-known insurance salesman and real estate broker, and her mother, Theresa (Carey) Szary worked in local factories and later as a waitress.
She leaves her two children, Kathryn (Paquette) of Easthampton and Mark Schwobe of Alpharetta GA, together with six granddaughters and four great grandsons. She is survived by two sisters, Judith Campbell of Bristol RI, and Maureen Szary of Sumterville FL.
After graduating from St. Michael’s High School, Connie enrolled in the Cooley Dickinson Hospital School of Nursing. While there, she met an airman stationed at Westover AFB named Robert Schwobe from Denver, Colorado and they were soon wed. At that time, nursing students were not allowed to be married so she left the school and began her career as a homemaker. Although they spent several years in Colorado and Florida, they spent most of their lives together in their beloved Hampshire County. The couple remained happily married for over 68 years until Robert’s death in 2021. Connie remained at the Linda Manor Assisted Living Facility in Leeds, MA.
