A Life of Love, Compassion, and Family

Deborah A. Doyle, 69, passed away on October 21, 2026, at Holyoke Medical Center. Though her passing leaves a deep sadness for those who loved her, the warmth of her heart, the kindness she shared, and the many memories she created will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

Born in Northampton, Massachusetts, on September 21, 1957, Deborah was the beloved daughter of the late Anthony and Charlotte Cross Engerman. She grew up in Northampton, attended Ryan Road School, and graduated from Northampton High School. Her life would become one defined by caring for others and by the deep love she held for her family.

After high school, Deborah began working as a nursing assistant at Northampton Nursing Home. She later found a special home at River Valley Rest Home, where she devoted more than 30 years to caring for residents. Her work was more than a job—it was an expression of her caring nature. Through her patience, compassion, and kindness, she brought comfort and companionship to many people and became part of their lives in a meaningful way.

When Deborah was not working, she enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought her happiness: playing bingo, getting outside to enjoy the fresh air, and sharing her home and heart with her many, many beloved cats. Animals held a special place in her heart, and her love for them was just one more reflection of the tenderness she carried through life.

Above all, Deborah treasured her family. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her grandchildren and delighting in the chance to spoil them. Those moments, whether big celebrations or ordinary days spent together, were precious to her. Family was always close to her heart, and the love she gave so freely will remain a lasting part of the lives she touched.

Deborah leaves behind her loving daughters, Katie Polonis and her husband, Timothy, of Chicopee, and Christina Doyle and her partner, Jose Fonseca, of Holyoke; her son, Jason Doyle, and his significant other, Allison Stephen, of Chicopee; nine cherished grandchildren; and three adored great-grandchildren. She also leaves her husband, David Doyle, of Greenfield, and her brother, Kenneth Ingerman, and his wife, Diane, of Vermont. Each of them carries their own special memories of Deborah, and each will feel her absence in deeply personal ways.

As her family grieves this tremendous loss, may they find comfort in the love Deborah gave them, in the memories they shared, and in the knowledge that she made a difference in so many lives. Her devotion to her family, her years of caring for others, her love of animals, and the simple joys she embraced are all part of the legacy she leaves behind. She will be remembered with affection, missed beyond words, and loved always.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 2, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Boucher-O’Brien Funeral Home, 7 Pleasant Street, Easthampton. Family and friends are warmly invited to come together to remember Deborah, share stories, celebrate her life, and offer love and support to one another during this difficult time.

In honor of Deborah’s deep love for cats, memorial contributions may be made to Duncan Animal Hospital in Springfield to support cat rescue efforts.
