Nancy R. Long 1951-2022


Nancy R. Long of West Hatfield passed away after a brief illness on October 7, 2022. Nancy was the daughter of the late Calvin Long and Betty Swiercz. She was raised in Northampton and Easthampton, she was a graduate of Easthampton High School. Nancy was a Chef at Smith College Dining Services for 35 years, retiring in 2014.


She has been together with George Wood, Jr. since 1990, they married in 2007 and had 15 wonderful years of marriage.

Nancy enjoyed sewing, quilting, cats, Star Trek, Star Wars, Sci-fi books, Harry Potter, cooking, baking, tag sales and ice cream. She was a member of St.Peters Lutheran Church in Holyoke. Nancy fought a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease for over 12 years, walking everyday with George to help keep her moving. Special thanks to her friends and neighbors Irene, Donald, Rhonda, Gerry and Patty for all their help and support.


Nancy leaves her loving husband George, her son Daniel Long and his wife Heidi Kobara of California, her sister Janie Fisher and her husband Ed of Westhampton and her lovely Aunt Ruth Holich, cousins Ilse, Amy, David, Lori, Susan, Robert, Anna May, George, and Ruth. Her sister-in-law Linda Geoghegan. Her nephews and niece Douglas, Sean and Katherine along with many great-nephews and great-nieces. Nancy’s ‘honorary grandchildren’ Fiona and Aidan. Nancy was pre-deceased by her sister Doreen Long and her parents.


Calling Hours will be held on Saturday afternoon, October 22nd from 2-4pm at Boucher-O’Brien Funeral Home, 7 Pleasant Street, Easthampton Ma, with graveside service to follow in Westhampton Cemetery.
