
Phyllis M. Gawle, 97, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2024. She was born on July 5, 1926, in Adams, MA. Phyllis was the daughter of Edson and Ora (Remington) Andrews and was raised in Savoy, MA. She was a graduate of Adams High School and North Adams State College where she received a B.A. in elementary education.
On July 14, 1951, Phyllis married the love of her life, Stanley J. Gawle. They moved to Easthampton on Strong St. where they raised their family of four daughters. Phyllis taught at elementary schools in Florida, Westhampton, and Southampton, MA.
She was member of the former Sacred Heart Church and of its Holy Rosary Sodality. Most recently, she was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Parish.
She loved travel, game shows, playing Scrabble, doing jigsaw puzzles, and the daily Wonder Word. What Phyllis enjoyed above all was being a stay-at-home mom and raising her family. She cherished family times with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Phyllis will be dearly missed by her daughters Sharon Irwin and husband Michael, Linda Carrier and husband Paul, Connie Farr and husband Ken, and Pam Evans and husband Bob. She was a beloved grandmother to Eric Parizo and fiancée Michelle Wegener, Ashleigh Fox and husband Brian, Katrina Staples and husband Jeff, Amanda Farr and partner Mark Greenier, and Alex Farr and partner Jennifer Gralia, as well as her great grandchildren Jack and Rosemarie Parizo, Briana Reed, Jacob, Trevor, and Ryan Staples, and Paige and Kerrigan Fox. She also leaves her brother Dale Andrews of Turners Falls, her sister Carey Rae Montville of Savoy along with several nieces and nephews and many in-laws.
Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Stanley, brothers Sydney Andrews, Kenneth Andrews, and her sister Carolyn Carver.
The family would like to thank the staff at Armbrook Village for the wonderful care they provided to Phyllis these last few years, especially those involved with her daily care. We truly appreciate the outstanding dedication they showed to her.
Calling hours will be Thursday March 7 from 5-7 p.m. at the Boucher-O’Brien Funeral Home, at 7 Pleasant Street in Easthampton. Her funeral service will be held Friday, March 8, 2024, at the funeral home beginning at 10 a.m. followed by Mass at Our Lady of the Valley Church at 11:00 a.m. with burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Compass Community at Armbrook Village, 551 North Road, Westfield, MA 01085.
