David E Poulin 1949-2022

David E Poulin of Easthampton passed away on July 22, 2022, after a long courageous battle with mental illness. He was 73. He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years Gail (Conway.) He was a dedicated family man and enjoyed spending time with his daughters, Marie of Easthampton, and Heather of Deerfield. He was the son of Constance E (Smith) and Robert D Poulin of Westfield. He is also survived by his brother Robert D of Westfield (Barbara,) his sisters Constance Hosmer of Southwick, Nancy Maynard of Westfield, and Donna Jones (William) of Manchester, NH. He was predeceased by his brothers John and James. He is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

David enlisted in the US Air Force in 1968 and served primarily in Clovis, NM. He later attended Holyoke Community College for a degree in environmental science. He worked most of his life at Monsanto/Bayer/Solutia in Indian Orchard. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved the adventure he could find in the hills of New England, hiking as often as possible with many wonderful friends over the years. His greatest joy was getting out onto cross country ski trails. He loved the backcountry most of all but did ski touring all over Mass and Vermont. Trapp Lodge Ski Touring had his favorite set of trails. David had a little piece of property in Vermont that he lovingly called his “Palatial Estate.” It was his hideaway and his base for exploring the countryside. David supported many outdoor and environmental organizations over the years. He and his wife Gail loved to travel at every opportunity and experienced many of the great National Parks as well as the Caribbean and Bermuda.

David will be missed by all who were fortunate to know him.

Family and friends are invited to David’s Funeral Service, with full military honors, Tuesday August 2, 3PM at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Boucher – O’Brien Funeral Home is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his honor to one of David’s longtime favorite organizations, Pascommuck Conservation Trust – PO Box 806 Easthampton, MA 01027.
