Helen M. (Lyn) Richards, 75, passed away peacefully at her home in Southampton surrounded by her loving family on Friday, May 17, 2025. She was born on January 26,1950, in Northampton to William and Helen (Arnold) McCarthy.
Lyn grew up in Northampton, graduated from Northampton High School and then went on to graduate from Greenfield Community College, School of Nursing. She worked as an RN at Longwood Hospital in Boston and Cooley Dickinson Hospital. She then for many years, become office manager at her husbands shipping company, The Package Store and Valley Marketing Inc. Lyn met the love of her life John in high school in 1965 they were wed in 1971 and have been married for 54 years. Together they raised their family in Northampton then moved to Southampton. Lyn served on the Board of the Northampton Housing Authority for 10 years. She also volunteered with the 104th Fighter Wing Family Support Group for over twenty years. During this time, in two separate years, she was nominated and received Presidential Citations. She loved to garden and to cook. She made every holiday special. She was family famous for making homemade jams and pickles.
Helen will be dearly missed by her beloved husband John C. H. Richards, III of Southampton, her sons John C.H. Richards IV of Rehoboth, MA, Aaron J. and Sara Richards of Montgomery, MA, her brother William McCarthy of Northampton, MA her sister Sara Welch and her husband Peter of Georgetown, SC. She also leaves her dear nieces and nephews; Ethan Hall, Lydia Hall and Hunter Holtz.
Helen was predeceased by her parents and her sisters, Susan Hewitt and Mary Jean Hall.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 29th from 4:00pm -8:00pm at the Southampton Country Club, 329 College Hwy, Southampton, MA 01073
