Mary E. (Witherell) Vachula, 95, of Northampton MA, formerly of Easthampton died on September 17, 2023. She was born in Westhampton, Oct. 5, 1927, the daughter of the late Walter R. and Laura N. (Church) Witherell. She was educated in the Westhampton Schools and was a graduate of the Northampton High School, Class of 1945. She married the love of her life, Thomas Vachula, on May 30, 1946.
Mrs. Vachula owned and operated Mary's Beauty Shop in Westhampton for many years. She was also employed as a Nutritional Care Manager for Highland Valley Elder Services in Northampton for several years, retiring in 1994. Mrs. Vachula was a long-time member of The Restored Church of God.
After the death of her husband Thomas Vachula in 1990, she founded the organization known as the 55 And Up Singles Club, for people over that age who have lost a loved one. Later in life she spent winters in Silver Springs, FL for many years.
She is predeceased by her husband Thomas Vachula, her son Thomas E. Vachula, brothers Walter, Ronald and twin brother Merrill Witherell sisters Grace Hunt, Gail Witherell and a Granddaughter Robin Sharac.
She leaves her daughter Mrs. Patricia A. (Robert) Knightly, both of Easthampton. Her Grandchildren Heather Devine, Thomas Macgregor, Jennifer Vachula, Amy Vachula and Scott Vachula. She also leaves several great grandchildren and, she was known as GG by all. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There will be a calling hour on Friday September 22, starting at 10AM with a Service to follow at 11AM at Boucher – O’Brien Funeral Home, 7 Pleasant St, Easthampton followed by burial in Westhampton Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cooley Dickinson VNA and Hospice, 168 Industrial Dr, Northampton MA. or Christopher Heights of Northampton.
