Donald A. Shewchuk

Donald A. Shewchuk, 72 of Granby MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on October 15, 2025. Born in Holyoke on June 12, 1953 he was the only child to the late Frederick and Carol (Blair) Shewchuk. He was a graduate of Holyoke High School in 1972. Donald was a proud Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War as a Navy Crew Chief for Attack Squadron 176 from 1972-1978. Working on a naval aircraft carrier as an aircraft mechanic, Don loved reminiscing about his time serving in the Navy. Donald also had a love for science and biology. Upon returning home from the service, he worked at Providence Hospital of Holyoke assisting in autopsies, where he met his loving wife, formerly Lynn Scribner of South Hadley.

Don and Lynn were happily married for 41 years. Following in his father’s footsteps, Donald went to college in Boston, receiving his degree and license as a Funeral Director and Embalmer. In 1981 he went into his family business alongside his father, eventually owning and operating Dillon and Edward F. Day Funeral Home of Holyoke for over 20 years, from which he had just retired this year.

Don leaves behind his loving wife, Lynn M. Shewchuk, his son Wesley Shewchuk and his wife Kim of Westfield, and his daughter Sara Buckhout and her husband Will of Granby, as well as his grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Tyler and Mason Shewchuk, and Arya and Madilyn Buckhout. He had hoped to pursue more time doing what he loved; golfing, fishing, playing pool, but mostly spending time with his family, and his loving dog Murray.

Services were private. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked donations be made to Sister Caritas Cancer Center. Boucher - O’Brien Funeral Home in Easthampton was entrusted with Dons Services.
