John F. Poulin


EASTHAMPTON – John F. Poulin, 83, of Pomeroy Court passed away peacefully Saturday, January 2, 2021, at home surrounded by the love of his family. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten.


John was born in 1937 in Monson, MA and is the son of the late William V. and Una I. (Chabot) Poulin.


John was educated in the Monson Public Schools and went on to became a licensed heavy equipment operator. He joined the International Union of Operating Engineers (Local Union 98) in 1959 where he had a life-long career in construction. A very proud union member, John served as Secretary to the Retirees Club and was an integral part of training future generations of operating engineers. In 2001 he retired from Gomes Construction of Ludlow after 14 years of employment where he took on his greatest role as full time grandpa.


Besides his passion of heavy equipment, he was an avid nature and animal lover and talented woodworker.


In addition to his parents, he is also predeceased by his wife of 52 years Donna (Young) Poulin, four brothers William, Dwight, Charles and Thomas Poulin and three sisters Frances Masker, Marjorie Toomey and Mary Wooster. John leaves behind five beloved children, Cathy Poulin Carpenter of Southbridge, Susan Santos of Ludlow, Karen Banks of Winter Springs, Florida, Daniel Poulin and his wife Rhonda of Chuluota, Florida, and Deborah Richerson and her husband Roger of Easthampton, brother Joseph Poulin of Palmer and sister Claire Rounds of Stafford Springs, Connecticut, his eight grandchildren Jesse Carpenter, Jill Joy, Nicki Carbonneau, Mia Santos-Izyk, Tyler Richerson, Kayla Banks, Emily Poulin, Morgan Poulin, and seven great-grandchildren Luke, Laci, Zelda, Issabelle, Lillyan, Calianne, and Riley. He will also be missed by his extended family The Youngs, Jordan, Amyah, and William Banks, and Meggan, Brandi, Kyle Eastham.


The family would like to extend a sincere appreciation to Dr. Christine Baker of Florence for all her years of dedication, compassion and support, also to Beacon Hospice of Springfield for their care and love, and to Gomes Construction for all the love they gave to John.


Family and friends are invited to a gathering on Saturday, January 9, from 11AM - 1PM at the Boucher-O’Brien Funeral Home, 7 Pleasant Street, Easthampton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association. Due to Covid 19, social distancing and safety protocols will be in place.
